It would be so easy, so straightforward, to make a census truly inclusive with such options:
Sex: F M
Gender ID: Y N
If Y, what is your Gender ID?
(Or some variation.)
But that is unacceptable because it reveals sex as real and gender as optional or a choice. So it has to be inverted or the goal of elevating gender over sex, of obliterating sex categories, will not be met.
Things could have been so different, so much more inclusive, if there wasn't the insistence to tell lies about our bodies.
